Quicksand Phenomenon

Sand or sand suction vacuum is kaloid hydrogel consisting of sand , water and clay . Quicksand usually found around water sources such as at the beach , river and swamp . Quicksand has a density of 2 grams / milliliter while the human density is 1gram/mililiter this causes the human body that goes down to the sands of life shall not die unless it goes down head first because people will be in waist deep suction or half of the body posture .
When stuck in quicksand , the more we struggled to get out of it , the faster we will sink . If we just relax , our body will float in it because your body has a smaller density than the quicksand .
Quicksand is not a unique soil type , usually it is just ordinary sand or other types of rough ground . Quicksand is nothing more than a mixture of concentrated between sand and water . It can happen anywhere under the right conditions by Denise Dumouchelle , geologists from the United States Geological Survey ( USGS ) .
Quicksand occurs when water seeps into the area of loose sand and sand then becomes easy to move . If water is trapped in a collection of sand and could not get out , then formed " liquid soil " that can no longer hold our weight . There are two ways in which the sand could be a " quicksand " :
1 . Groundwater flow - the flow of water to the power of the opposing forces of gravity , causing the sand grains become lighter . 2 . Earthquakes - Power ground shaking can increase the pressure of shallow groundwater , which melt layer of sand and mud . Liquid surface will lose strength , causing buildings or other objects on its surface would sink or fall . Vibration coupled water flow reduces the friction between sand particles and causes the sand to behave like a liquid . To understand the quicksand , we must understand the process of liquefaction . When the soil melts , like quicksand , it will lose strength and behave like a viscous liquid . Liquefaction can cause drowning building during an earthquake . Quicksand can occur in almost any location where there is a stream of water . The place where quicksand most likely to occur include : river beach Near the lake shore Near the underground springs swamp When you're at the beach , notice the difference in the sand as you stand on a different part of the beach that have different levels of humidity . If you stand in the driest part of the beach , the sand holding and you will be fine . Friction between sand particles create a stable surface to stand on it .
